Champlain Housing Trust to lease former Sara Holbrook Community Center building to ONE Arts Inc
Burlington, Vermont – Champlain Housing Trust and local nonprofit ONE Arts Inc announced today that they have reached an agreement to lease the building at 66 North Avenue in Burlington, the former home of the Sara Holbrook Community Center.
ONE Arts Inc operates creative programs for all ages at its licensed early learning, after school and camps programs and art studios, and will expand its programs by leasing the building.
“We are deeply honored to have the opportunity to serve even more children and families in this beautiful education space,” stated ONE Arts Co-President Margaret Coleman.
Champlain Housing Trust purchased the building from the Sara Holbrook Community Center after the organization terminated programming last fall. The housing trust committed to keeping the property in community use. The property received a $4.3 million make-over five years ago and preserving that community investment was important to both the Sara Holbrook Community Center and to Champlain Housing Trust.
“When we took over this building we had hoped that a community nonprofit serving kids and families from the Old North End could find a home here,” said Michael Monte, Champlain Housing Trust’s CEO. “ONE Arts does that, and its roots in the Old North End was an important factor in this agreement.”
ONE Arts will move in this coming summer and expand its programs in the fall.

We are thrilled to announce that ONE Arts Community Schools have been selected to receive a mini-grant from VTAEYC to celebrate the Week of the Young Child! This special week, organized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is dedicated to honoring young children, their families, and the educators who support them. Our celebration will include a series of events and activities designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and a sense of belonging among children, families, and educators. Through hands-on art projects, an interactive musical petting zoo, community-building activities, and more, we aim to create joyful, meaningful experiences that highlight the importance of early childhood education.
We can’t wait to share this special week with our community!
ONE Arts is grateful to be funded in part by grants from the Vermont Children's Trust, Waterwheel Foundation, Vermont Community Foundation, Burlington City Arts, and Vermont Arts Council. We are also proud recipients of the Vermont Early Childhood Fund Opportunity Grant and a 2024 Make Way for Kids Grant.
